The Annual Al-Noor Boat Race:

The hugely popular dragon boat race is back again at Fairlop Waters with teams of 17 eager to battle it out against each other to be crowned champion dragon boaters.

The format:

Dragon boat racing is a forward-facing rowing competition with 16 rowers and 1 drummer at the bow. The specialist dragon boat company will provide a cox who will steer from the rear. No previous experience is required as each team be will inducted individually on the day.

You can be safe in the knowledge that your safety is our number one priority and we are working with a specialist dragon boat events company who is providing all legal, health and safety, and public liability cover for the event.

Is parking available at the event?

Yes, limited parking is available which will be of charge.

How long is the event?

The events will start at 10am and we require everyone to be present for registration by 9.30am. The HHUGS staff will have their banner and the lead person will be in communication with everyone on a whatsapp group that is created. A brother for the male participants and sister for the female.

What experience do I need to row the boat?

No previous experience is required; the dragon boat team will induct each boat team independently on the day

How will the boat race work?

Each team is entered into a series of heats throughout the day. As the day progresses winning teams progress into the knockout stages and there will be a grand final at the end of the day.

Does the event cover health and safety regulations?

Yes, we are working with a specialist dragon boat events company who is providing all legal health and safety, and public liability cover for the event.

How much do I have to raise?

We request everyone fundraises a minimum of £200 and fundraise at least £100 2 weeks before the event date

Are there any age restrictions?

You need to be at least 18. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Will breakfast, lunch or dinner be provided?

No food will be provided but there will be stalls you can purchase food from on the day.

What should I wear?

Anything you find comfortable and warm. It is also preferable to wear wet proof clothes as you will be partaking in rowing and may get wet

Would we be able to bring other people to attend and watch?


I Have Never Fundraised Before, Where Do I Start?

There are many ways to fundraise and when you sign up, we will give you great ideas and we are always at hand to give you further support.

What if I cancel?

The tickets are non-refundable. If you will cancel please inform us as soon as possible so we open up your spot so others can join.

There will be stalls that you can shop at and a lounge area where you can relax.
